Rather, it was planned and authors were selected to cover what the editors and I deemed to be an important and exciting area of research: the effect of secondary messengers on plant cells. This topic is particularly timely because there is a great deal of new and interesting information about secondary messengers and their effects on plant cells. It is my hope that this book will serve as a fine introduction to students and investigators who want to enter this area of study and that it will summarize and organize current knowledge about secondary messengers for researchers already working in this field of study.
